ABOUT THE CHARITY

The Robert Horwitz Art Memorial Fund is the charity which will receive all the proceeds from the sale of the one of a kind original art pieces.

Robert Horwitz, who was born in Sheboygan, WI on Dec. 2, 1929 and died in Miami, Fl on July 2, 2005, was a philosopher and an artist.

The painting displayed here he considered his masterpiece because it portrayed both his philosophy and his artistic talent.  It was on display at the John Michael Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, WI and at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI

In his words: ”The central figure is mankind striving for peaceful, non violent solutions to life’s problems.  The brow is wrinkled with frustration.  Although peaceful aims are within grasp, the hold is awkward and unsure.  Optimism is signified by the reaching right hand.

The threat of total annihilation looms from the background in the form of tentacled clouds.  Lined with white and drifting suggests that in spite of disasters mankind will continue to flourish.

The machine gun implies an impulsiveness to employ “quick solutions” in seemingly insoluble problems.

The biblical scroll indicates an often overlooked key to some of the fundamental principles of successful living.  It suggests that humans are imbued with an infinite force that impels them to seek righteousness.

An every present specter is the failings of humans, gazing in the form of a skeleton.  The bird, with shriveled olive branch represents faulty implementation of lofty ideals.  A benign attitude suggests that human failures are not a final deterrent to good or evil.

Drapery depicts materialism.  It can comfort and enhance, but not completely hide the challenging realities of life.

Compassion is represented by woman and child.  It symbolizes that all humans need love, understanding and assistance to enjoy and contribute their full potential to the great adventure of life.

The pedestal statue proclaims that in retrospect, there is a measured period in each person’s life, to contribute to the welfare of mankind.”

The object of the charitable fund is an art competition with the theme “Quest for Peace.” The goal of the competition is to promote awareness for peace promotion and to financially assist students studying art.  For more information about this worthy project contact the artist at ilajeanh@adelphia.net.”
